| Butterflies
for the BVIC (Blind
and Visually Impaired Center of Monterey County)
There really is a Butterfly House in Pacific
Grove (Butterfly Town USA). The house has a special meaning
for Sonja and J Jackson who have lived there for 31 years.
When Sonja’s RP (retinitis pigmentosa) began to dramatically
progress, J wanted to help in some way, but what could he
do? Yes, he drove her to appointments, to work (prior to retirement),
walked with her, shopped with her, etc. But there had to be
something else. One day, on a whim, Sonja asked J to put a
little plastic butterfly on the house just to represent the
PG spirit. From that little butterfly about ten years ago,
the house has become a sanctuary for plastic, metal and now
ceramic Monarch butterflies, all with J’s distinctive
touch. Because Sonja had completed a Braille class at the
BVIC, he decided to outline the butterflies, hearts he painted
and other designs with raised Braille-like dots.

This photo shows J in his workroom next to his Braille Wall.
One of the most treasured areas of our home is the Butterfly
Brick Road, on which you can visit the Wall of Love. This
special wall has hundreds of butterflies that people like
you purchase for loved ones with all proceeds going to the
BVIC in Monterey County.
Visit The Butterfly House and feel the joy
and, hopefully, you too will want to put a name on a butterfly.

For
those of you around the world who would like to be a part
of The Butterfly House, Sonja has created "The
Butterfly Universe Wall of Love". What this means is
that when you send a check or money order in the amount of
$20.00 this will purchase a ceramic butterfly.
Along
with the check or money order, please print on a separate
paper the name(s) you want installed on the butterfly. All
names are welcome (people, pets, living or deceased (one full
name per butterfly). The name will be printed on a weather-proof
label and attached to the butterfly’s wings. Then the
butterfly will be attached to the wall.
The
names will also be placed on our web site: Wall
of Names

and I make no money on this project, we pay for the labeling,
attaching it to the butterfly and then to the wall. J will
do the maintenance on the wall to keep the butterflies fresh
and alive.
Sonja, who is legally blind, is now an officer on the board
of directors for The Blind and Visually Impaired Center of
Monterey County (BVIC), 225 Laurel Avenue, Pacific Grove,
CA 93950, tel. (831) 649-3505, www.blindandlowvision.org
and it is her suggestion that the full $20.00 tax-deductible
contribution could help this center in a very big way to continue
its great work locally and, of course, a receipt for the $20.00
donation will be mailed to you upon request.
Sonja and I hope you participate in this project which will
make "The Butterfly House" a very special place
to visit.
Make
check or money order payable to the
BVIC and mail to:
